The Network Security Engineer II role involves supporting the design, implementation, and operation of network security solutions to maintain secure and reliable network environments while contributing to security improvements and operational stability.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation and maintenance of network security solutions
- Configure and manage firewall policies and related security controls
- Assist with network segmentation efforts, including macro and micro segmentation
- Monitor and respond to security events using established tools and processes
- Identify vulnerabilities and support remediation efforts
- Troubleshoot network and security issues with guidance from senior engineers
- Contribute to documentation for network configurations, processes, and standards
- Support onboarding and integration of new security tools and technologies
- Assist with automation tasks using scripts and existing frameworks
- Participate in project work with defined scope and clear deliverables
- Collaborate with network, security, and operations teams to resolve issues
- Participate in an on-call rotation
Requirements:
- 2–4 years of experience in network engineering or network security
- Foundational knowledge of network security concepts and practices
- Experience working with firewall technologies (Palo Alto preferred)
- Understanding of network segmentation principles
- Basic knowledge of routing and switching fundamentals
- Experience reviewing logs, alerts, or packet captures
- Familiarity with VPNs and secure remote access concepts
- Exposure to Linux environments
- Basic scripting or automation experience (Python or similar)
- Ability to document work clearly and accurately
- CCNA or progress toward CCNP or equivalent knowledge
- Exposure to Cisco ISE or 802.1X
- Experience with IPS or threat detection tools
- Familiarity with APIs or system integrations
- Exposure to version control systems
- Experience working in data center or large-scale network environments
