Description
The Video Writer and Producer is an individual contributor responsible for contributing to the creative vision, instructional integrity, and production quality of video-based learning experiences. This role leads scripting, and on-screen production, collaborating closely with SMEs, technical writers, and learning designers to ensure video content effectively supports adult learning objectives. The position also serves as a producer and on-set director, overseeing planning, talent coaching, quality assurance, and feedback incorporation while ensuring smooth execution of each shoot.
NCCER is looking for a creative, committed, organized, and detail-oriented Lead Video Writer and Producer with a passion for helping to deliver self-paced, mobile-friendly training courses for construction craft professionals. Your contributions will help us develop courses used for just-in-time training, upskilling, and cross-skilling to meet their specific project or organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leads scripting
- Designs each video for content and visual efficacy.
- Works closely with technical writers and SMEs to gather the details that matter.
- Collaborates with other learning design specialists and makes recommendations to ensure that the video elements of the course lay the foundation upon which other activities build meaningfully.
2. Serves as producer for each assigned craft
- Responsible for understanding learning goals, scripting, developing shot lists, identifying graphics and b-roll needs, sourcing graphics and b-roll, directing on-site film work, and some editing.
- Receives and manages feedback related to video elements. Leads QA/QC related to the technical content of the videos.
3. Helps to screen on-air talent, includes:
- Evaluating potential on-air instructors for their knowledge, communication skills, and ability to effectively convey technical information to the audience.
- Conducting interviews or auditions to assess the on-air talent's suitability for the content.
4. Ensures logistics and pre-production planning for each shoot, includes:
- Communicating and coordinating with on-air talent, industry partners, and SMEs to coordinate their availability.
- Confirming the availability of all equipment and materials needed on set.
- Maintaining a smooth production process (your partner video team will manage the logistics of video equipment).
- Collaborating with our assistant project manager to establish schedules and locations for video shoots.
- Identifying and evaluating potential filming locations that align with the content of the videos, considering factors such as safety, accessibility, lighting conditions, and the overall aesthetic appeal of the location.
- Coordinating with companies or owners or managers to secure permissions for filming.
5. Coaches and directs talent to achieve the best performance from on-screen talent. May include:
- Walking through warm-up exercises, helping them relax, vocal coaching, gesture and body coaching and cheerleading when retakes stack up.
- Ensuring that all the required shots are captured and that the content is delivered accurately and effectively.

Requirements
- BS, BA, MS, or MA degree
- 3 + years of experience in teaching /training design and delivery, video production, or technical writing
- Background in education, adult learning, video production, training development, design or delivery
- Command of adult learning principles and /or video engagement
- Familiarity with story design and effective lesson design
- Aesthetic and creative skills to generate ideas based on content and learner needs
- Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
- High Emotional Intelligence
- Leadership, coaching and collaboration skills to supervise and manage cross team members and on-screen talent
- Analytical and decision-making skills to make business judgments
- Excited, passionate, proactive and self-motivated with an enthusiasm for learning
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies

- Able to travel to location shoots, SME meetings, and industry conferences
Software Skills
- Microsoft Office/365, including SharePoint and OneDrive
- Experience with Vimeo preferred
- Experience with Smartsheet preferred
