Coalesce Management Consulting is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to support electric transmission system planning initiatives. The role involves evaluating system performance, supporting long-term grid reliability, and identifying necessary transmission upgrades to meet load growth and renewable integration requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Perform transmission planning studies to evaluate system reliability, thermal loading, voltage performance, contingency impacts, and long-term grid needs
- Support development of transmission expansion plans and identify system upgrades driven by load growth, generation interconnections, and reliability requirements
- Conduct power flow, short circuit, stability, and contingency analysis to assess transmission system performance
- Collaborate with planning, operations, engineering, and project teams to support capital planning initiatives and infrastructure investment decisions
- Analyze system constraints and develop technical recommendations for transmission improvements and reinforcement strategies
- Support regulatory compliance efforts related to transmission planning requirements and reliability standards
- Participate in interconnection studies, regional planning coordination, and long-range transmission assessments
- Prepare technical reports, study documentation, and presentations to communicate planning results and recommendations
Requirements:
- Experience supporting transmission planning activities within an electric utility or EPC environment
- Strong understanding of transmission system operations, planning methodologies, and reliability criteria
- Experience using power system modeling and planning tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld Simulator, PSLF, or similar tools
- Familiarity with contingency analysis, NERC planning standards, and transmission planning workflows
- Strong analytical, modeling, and technical problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders
