BEUMER Group is an international manufacturing leader in intralogistics, and they are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support and enhance their installed material handling systems. This role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure system reliability and performance improvements through engineering initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Support Customer Support and Sales teams by providing engineering input for system upgrades, retrofits, and modernization proposals
- Assist Service and Project Managers with field support, commissioning assistance, and troubleshooting of installed systems
- Evaluate existing system configurations and customer requirements to develop engineering solutions for modifications and improvements
- Assess system performance, manufacturing feasibility, cost, and maintenance implications of proposed changes to installed equipment
- Develop and modify system layouts and components using 2D and 3D CAD tools, including steel structures, sheet metal parts, and BEUMER equipment. Optimize designs for maintainability, cost-efficiency, and operational performance
- Prepare engineering documentation including specifications, as-built updates, and service-related technical documentation
- Coordinate and support implementation activities, including fabrication, procurement, and installation of retrofit or replacement components
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Purchasing, Project Management, and Field Service teams to ensure seamless execution of service projects
- Maintain accurate records, including engineering changes, service reports, and technical documentation
- Develop and support project schedules for service-related engineering efforts, including sequencing of retrofit and upgrade activities
- Review system designs against customer requirements, operational standards, and performance expectations
- Support and lead smaller-scale service engineering projects, including retrofit initiatives and system enhancements (typically within defined service project scopes)
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and reduce downtime
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within material handling, automated systems, or service/support environments
- Experience in mechanical design for automated machinery or material handling equipment
- Broad understanding of machine technologies including mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic controls integration
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD modeling tools
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, drafting standards, dimensioning, and tolerancing
- Familiarity with electrical motors, power transmission, and system integration concepts
- Understanding of IBC and OSHA requirements related to material handling systems
- Ability to analyze existing systems and develop practical engineering solutions in live operational environments
- Strong problem-solving skills with focus on reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle performance
- Ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines including engineering, service, and operations teams
- Experience supporting retrofit, upgrade, or field-based engineering activities is highly valued
- Effective use of engineering and project tools to manage service-related work
- Excellent time management and attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in customer-facing situations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, service-driven environment
