A growing two-hospital health system in Providence, Rhode Island the northeast is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide financial leadership and operational oversight during a critical phase of organizational transformation. The health system recently transitioned from a for-profit to a not-for-profit structure and is seeking a strong, hands-on healthcare finance leader who can partner closely with the CFO to strengthen financial operations, improve processes, and drive efficiencies across the organization.
This engagement offers the potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate, including a future growth path toward a CFO position.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CFO in overseeing all accounting and financial operations.
- Lead and mentor a team of 15+ finance professionals.
- Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and healthcare industry standards.
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, cash management, and financial controls.
- Support audit activities and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Assist with initiatives related to the organization's transition from for-profit to not-for-profit operations.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve departmental efficiency.
- Drive the adoption of automation, AI-enabled tools, and technology solutions to enhance productivity and reporting capabilities.
- Partner with operational and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making and financial performance improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- CPA designation required.
- Significant healthcare Controller experience within hospitals or health systems.
- Demonstrated success partnering directly with CFOs and executive leadership teams.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare financial operations, accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Experience leading and developing accounting and finance teams.
- Hands-on experience with process improvement, automation, and AI-driven efficiency initiatives.
- Ability to quickly assess challenges, implement solutions, and provide leadership in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting organizations through ownership, governance, or organizational structure transitions.
- Experience in not-for-profit healthcare organizations.
- Potential and desire to grow into a future CFO role.
Systems - Meditech experience strongly preferred.
