Main Purpose of the Role:
Handles carrier’s/ZIM’s response to cargo liability claims, including subrogated claims, from place of receipt to place of delivery; assists Legal Department to timely resolve claims to avoid litigation; Third Party recoveries ; assists ZIM attorneys and other claims personnel worldwide, as directed.
Main Tasks:
Maintains active maritime and cargo claim records
Implements best administration and management practices with respect to cargo claims
Maintains database of communication files for required vendors (e.g. surveyors, counsel, specialist vendors)
Coordinates and/or assists with response to requests from other regions for action relative to unclaimed and/or abandoned cargoes
Any other duties as assigned
Investigation, analysis, and evaluation of case files; consultation with experts (if necessary), and makes critical determinations regarding claimed loss, exercising limited discretion in application of rules and procedures for claims handling and determination.
Provides reports to internal customers (Claims, Insurance & Loss Prevention; Finance; Country / Agency POCs)
Communicates with internal and external customers regarding procedures and policies, as well as specific claims information and status.
Prepares documents / invoices for disbursement and / or receipt of claims settlement funds and payment of vendors.
• Academic education: Bachelor’s Degree or significant related experience and/or training in a relevant field in lieu of a formal qualification; equivalent combination of training education and experience. Marine Logistics, Shipping, ports and terminals, Finance and/or Cargo Claims, insurance experience a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to work effectively in with a broad range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Knowledge of Excel Spreadsheet software and databases preferred.
