Job Description: IT Field Support Technician
Client: The City of Philadelphia
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Duration: 12 Months
Note: This is an onsite role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide first-level onsite technical support for network, systems, telephony, and IT hardware incidents.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of network switches, servers, workstations, wireless access points, printers, and structured cabling.
- Install, configure, replace, and maintain IT hardware and peripheral devices.
- Support rack-and-stack activities, cable management, patching, labeling, and physical connectivity within communications rooms and data centers.
- Conduct field inspections and basic diagnostics for wireless infrastructure, surveillance cameras, digital signage, and other operational technology systems.
- Perform Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC) for user endpoints, peripherals, and infrastructure equipment.
- Assist senior network and systems engineers with onsite implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
- Document completed work, update asset inventory records, and maintain accurate service and field activity logs.
- Utilize IT service management (ITSM) or ticketing systems to track incidents, service requests, and resolutions.
- Follow established safety procedures, operational standards, and security protocols while working in secure, public, and restricted operational areas.
- Escalate unresolved issues to higher-level technical teams with complete documentation and troubleshooting details.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- One to three years of experience providing IT support, desktop support, or technical field services.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, Ethernet, structured cabling, and switching fundamentals.
- Fundamental knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, and replacing computer hardware, networking equipment, and peripheral devices.
- Ability to perform physical installations, equipment handling, cable routing, and rack-mounted equipment installation.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to follow documented procedures.
- Experience using IT ticketing or service management systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with senior technical teams.
- Ability to work in secure facilities, public operational environments, mechanical rooms, and other onsite locations as required.
