Program Manager - Public Education Programs - 140764

UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies advances global access, equity, and social and economic mobility through educational enrichment across the lifespan. The Program Manager plans, schedules, implements, and evaluates public education programs and courses, while managing instructors, student communications, curriculum development, marketing activities, budgets, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities:

• The Program Manager manages the planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of programs and courses within UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies
• Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced public educational program professional to resolve a wide range of educational program issues and needs assessments
• Develops new public educational programs, and works on complex public educational programs of diverse scope
• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering courses, presentations and development programs
• Receives general instructions and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for course and instructional improvement
• Additional duties include ongoing course schedule planning, instructor recruiting, student and instructor communications, promotional planning, periodic program and course evaluation and adjustment, and responding to complex programmatic issues
• In conjunction with academic leadership and other internal stakeholders, participates in long-range strategic planning
• Develops outlines for new course curricula and updates, or recommends updates to existing course content
• May participate in the development of strategic marketing plans, coordinating marketing events, and developing and monitoring budgets

Requirements:

• Knowledge of managing a portfolio of business and management courses at the university or corporate level. Specifically, public educational programs or courses which may cover topics such as sciences, technology, education, arts, and the humanities
• Demonstrated excellent project management skills in an educational setting including, planning and implementing schedules, defining tasks and required resources, and tracking deadlines and deliverables
• Demonstrated experience providing academic advising to students
• Demonstrated experience designing and developing educational programs for adults
• Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs
• Demonstrated experience identifying, hiring, and training instructors
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a cross-functional team, fostering positive working relationships to achieve shared goals
• Thorough and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills
• Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills
• Thorough skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new presentations / courses to meet organizational needs
• Demonstrated experience developing and overseeing simple to moderately complex budgets
• Thorough knowledge of marketing concepts including participating in developing marketing plans, targeting audiences, and coordinating marketing events
• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• Thorough knowledge of functional area and understanding of how work may impact other areas
• Thorough knowledge of current public educational programs and trends
• Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
• Incumbent must be available for occasional evenings / weekends and may be required to attend conferences / programs both locally and out-of-town, as requested. Some overtime during peak periods may be required
