The Director of Claims – Complex Liability Division is responsible for providing strategic, operational, and technical leadership over the Complex Liability claims function, with a strong emphasis on New York and California claim handling.
This role will lead the development and execution of the complex liability claims operation, ensuring timely, fair, and consistent claim outcomes while maintaining strong service levels and financial discipline.
Lead the Complex and Commercial Liability claims operation, overseeing high‑exposure and litigated claims.
Build and manage jurisdiction‑specific claims teams, with a strong focus on New York and California.
Set and enforce consistent claim handling standards, service levels, and technical excellence.
Develop and lead claims managers and teams, driving accountability and performance.
Oversee severity management, reserving discipline, and effective claim resolution.
Partner with Underwriting, Actuarial, and Legal to align claim strategy with portfolio objectives.
Drive analytics, continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
Provide executive leadership with reporting, insights, and recommendations on claim trends.
Requirements
5–10+ years of experience handling complex, litigated liability claims with significant exposure.
Proven leadership experience managing claims teams, including adjusters and management‑level staff.
Strong technical expertise in liability evaluation, coverage analysis, litigation management, and claim strategy.
Experience supporting serious or high‑severity loss programs with disciplined reserving and resolution.
Ability to maintain service standards while managing time‑sensitive, high‑exposure claims.
Strong executive communication skills, sound judgment, and a high level of accountability.
Prior responsibility for large loss, catastrophic, or complex claim portfolios in New York and California (preferred).
Juris Doctor (JD) strongly preferred (preferred).
