The Training and Development Manager – Openings plays a key role in supporting the successful launch of new properties by partnering closely with the Director of Culture, Director of Training & Development, and operational leadership.
This position helps design, coordinate, and execute training programs for hourly teams, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with Indigo Road standards.
Supports pre-opening preparation, opening execution, and post-opening reinforcement through hands-on training, coaching, and ongoing development, helping set teams up for long-term success.
Assist with procurement, development, maintenance, and property-specific customization of hourly training manuals and materials.
In conjunction with Project Manager, coordinate purchasing of training material needs, print material, and organize hourly training binders.
Collaborate with culinary and beverage leadership on the creation of food and beverage training materials.
Collaborate with Director of Culture on structure for opening hourly dining room team training.
Collaborate with Culinary Director on structure for opening hourly kitchen team training.
Support leadership in the training and development of hourly teams during opening, utilizing strong working knowledge of all roles during position-specific breakout sessions.
Oversee attendance tracking for all training sessions and coordinate scheduling of make-up and post-opening training sessions for new hires.
Assist with the creation and grading of hourly testing materials in conjunction with in-house leadership.
Oversee testing completion tracking and coordinate make-up testing initiatives as needed.
Establish and help implement Indigo Road standards for post-opening training practices.
Ensure property Teams account is equipped with all training documents for ongoing hourly training.
Provide real-time coaching and support to management teams during and after all opening week events including Friends and Family services and Grand Opening.
Remain on-site for a defined transition period to ensure smooth handoff to permanent leadership.
Support post-opening evaluations and follow-ups, identifying opportunities for continued training or operational improvement.
Requirements
Demonstrate comprehensive, hands-on knowledge of all dining room positions and responsibilities.
Passion for coaching, teaching, and empowering individuals.
Minimum 2 years of full-service restaurant General Manager experience.
At least 2 years of experience in restaurant openings or pre-opening project leadership.
Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
Deep knowledge of restaurant operations, from service and hospitality to labor and inventory systems.
Ability to travel extensively (approximately 75%) and remain on-site for multi-week periods.
Highly organized and adaptable with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
Comfortable working in dynamic, high-pressure environments with multiple moving parts.
Proficient in POS systems, Google Suite, and operational planning tools.
