Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer, HVAC Design

Role Overview

• Assist with creating HVAC system designs, including drawings, specifications, and system narratives.
• Design heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning layouts using CAD software.
• Perform basic heat gain/loss calculations for residential and commercial projects.
• Support internal design, construction, and service teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Help prepare designs for negotiated and Design/Build projects.
• Assist with conceptual cost estimates for a wide range of HVAC systems.
• Participate in QA/QC processes to ensure design quality.
• Review and interpret architectural drawings and 3D models to support design decisions.
• Support project scheduling, manpower planning, and budget development.
• Assist with construction administration, including field visits and investigations.
• Help process Submittals, RFIs, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Record Drawings.
• Recommend product improvements or cost-saving opportunities when identified.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain consistent design standards.
• Attend department meetings and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
• Basic knowledge of HVAC principles and system applications
• Familiarity with building codes (preferred)
• Exposure to reading architectural drawings and/or 3D models (coursework accepted)
• Interest in LEED principles related to HVAC design (preferred)
• Ability to pursue a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the future (PE not required for entry-level)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Exposure to AutoCAD MEP and/or energy modeling software (Trane Trace, Carrier HAP) a plus
• Strong organizational and project-execution skills
