As our first dedicated full-time AI Engineer, your mission is to own the end-to-end lifecycle of our generative AI features, taking them from MVPs to robust, production-grade services.
Reporting to the IT Lead, you will be the hands-on expert responsible for building and scaling our AI capabilities.
You will implement features like document summarization and Q&A chat, build MLOps on Azure, and establish the best practices that will become the foundation for our future AI team.
This is a senior Individual Contributor role: hands-on delivery first, with influence on architecture and future hiring.
Requirements
5+ years in MLOps/Data (SaaS/cloud) with shipped production systems.
2+ years of specific experience with Generative AI (LLMs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, etc.).
Proven RAG delivery with production-grade evals (automatic + targeted human review), observability (traces, prompt/response logging with PII-safe redaction), and safeguards (prompt-injection/jailbreak mitigations).
Python + Docker; MLflow; Azure (Azure OpenAI or compatible), vector index (Azure AI Search/pgvector/Elastic), and async orchestration.
High ownership; challenges assumptions with data.
You are a strong communicator, fluent in English, and thrive in a remote-first, cross-functional environment.
Experience with Databricks, Ray, or Kedro is a strong plus.
You must be eligible to work in Portugal (i.e., be an EU citizen or hold a valid Portuguese work permit).
