EPC Project Management Consulting, LLC is seeking an experienced Design Manager to support large-scale data center and mission-critical projects. The Design Manager will lead complex design efforts, ensuring alignment, quality, and technical excellence throughout the project’s design lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Leading and integrating all design stakeholders, including the owner, tenant, engineers, and consultants, to ensure alignment with project objectives, standards, and delivery strategy
- Overseeing design progression across all phases—from Feasibility and Front-End Planning and FEL1–FEL3 through Detailed Design and Construction Administration—to maintain continuity, quality, and technical integrity
- Managing design through stage gates and deliverables to ensure decisions are informed, risks are controlled, and scope is clearly defined before advancement
- Confirming design outputs support constructability, procurement sequencing, and schedule execution, reducing downstream rework and delivery risk
- Leading team coordination during construction to preserve design intent, resolve technical issues efficiently, and protect overall project outcomes
- Develop and manage the overall design management plan, including schedules, deliverables, and coordination strategies
- Drive interdisciplinary coordination between architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and specialty systems
- Review and validate design packages for compliance with project standards, client requirements, and regulatory codes
- Identify design risks early and implement mitigation strategies
- Support value engineering and optimization initiatives without compromising reliability or performance
- Manage RFI responses, submittal reviews, and design clarifications during construction
- Provide regular reporting on design progress, risks, and milestones to project leadership and clients
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in design management, engineering, or project delivery for data centers or mission-critical facilities
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure including power, cooling, redundancy strategies, and reliability requirements
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and consultants
- Experience with FEL processes, stage-gated design delivery, and front-end planning
- Strong knowledge of constructability, procurement sequencing, and construction integration
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while supporting geographically diverse projects
- Experience supporting hyperscale or colocation data center programs
- Familiarity with BIM coordination and digital design workflows
