About this role
Role Overview
Oversee all payroll operations for Muir Wood, a residential treatment provider for teens.
Manage semi-monthly payroll processing, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Partner closely with HR and Finance teams.
Own the full payroll lifecycle—from onboarding and timekeeping to year-end filings and 401(k) administration.
Process semi-monthly, multi-site payroll with high accuracy.
Manage complex pay scenarios, including bonuses, shift differentials, and retro pay.
Ensure compliance with California payroll laws, including wage and hour requirements.
Support regular rate of pay calculations and overtime adjustments.
Assist with FLSA overtime compliance and payroll audits.
Process terminations and ensure final paycheck compliance.
Manage garnishments, tax deductions, and employment verifications.
Support year-end processes (W-2s, audits, reconciliations).
Maintain payroll data integrity within systems such as Paylocity.
Manage 401(k) contributions, deductions, reconciliation, and compliance reporting.
Oversee workers' compensation reporting and annual audit.
Train supervisors on Paylocity for timecard approvals and PTO management.
Monitor regulatory updates and implement compliant policies and processes.
Generate labor cost reporting to support management decision-making.
Partner with HR on benefits integration, HRIS systems, and file feeds.
Requirements
4+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience.
Strong knowledge of: California payroll compliance, regular rate of pay calculations, overtime and wage/hour regulations.
Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (Paylocity preferred).
Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve payroll discrepancies.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
Basic knowledge of GAAP (preferred).
Experience in healthcare or multi-entity payroll environments (preferred).
Background in payroll system implementation or optimization (preferred).
