The Opportunity:
As part of our expanding Medical Affairs organization, we seek a dynamic and experienced Director, Stakeholder Engagement Strategy & Operations to support the strategy, planning, and execution of medical congress activities across the European region. This role will also contribute to advisory board strategy and operations, ensuring seamless integration with congress objectives and broader Medical Affairs priorities. This individual will report to the Head of Scientific Stakeholder Engagement within Global Medical Excellence and will partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Clinical Development, and Research, with Medical Affairs maintaining leadership for global congresses and pipeline activities.
Responsibilities
Congress Strategy & Execution
Lead the implementation of a comprehensive European congress strategy for Medical Affairs, across all oncology therapeutic areas including pancreatic cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and colorectal cancer.
Drive alignment across internal and external stakeholders on strategic objectives, scientific messaging, and cross-functional engagement plans.
Ensure high-quality, compliant execution of congress activities including medical booths, symposia, satellite events, and scientific sessions.
Lead Medical Affairs planning for priority congresses in the European region, ensuring global consistency with regional adaptation.
Deliver medical leadership and consistent excellence in congresses through society relationship management and partnership with local markets and cross-functional partners.
Evaluate and shape congress key performance indicators (KPIs) and share insights with teams to continually refine approaches, priorities, and investments.
Advisory Board Strategy & Operations
LeadMedical Affairs advisory board strategy and operations for the European region, ensuring integration with global congress planning.
Ensure compliant planning, execution, and documentation of global and regional advisory boards aligned with medical strategy.
Support logistical planning for European advisory board execution.
Manages budgets and vendor relationships related to congresses, and advisory board activities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Commercial, Clinical Development, and Research to ensure consistent communication and scientific engagement while maintaining appropriate governance and firewalls.
Act as the central coordination point for cross-functional teams to align on congress priorities, deliverables, and messaging.
Collaborate with Publications/Medical Communications to ensure alignment of abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and key data dissemination.
Operational Leadership & Governance
Lead operational planning, budgeting, and vendor management for European congresses and advisory boards.
Ensure compliance with global and regional regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, PMDA, EFPIA, IFPMA).
Establish best practices, SOPs, and governance processes for global congress planning and advisory board execution.
Capture and disseminate post-congress and advisory board insights in collaboration with Medical Affairs Insights & Analytics.
Required Skills, Experience and Education
Advanced degree (MS, PharmD, PhD or equivalent in life sciences).
12+ years’ experience in Medical Affairs within biotech/pharma.
5+ years in global congress strategy and operations.
Experience leading global oncology congresses and advisory boards across U.S., EU, and APAC regions.
Strong understanding of oncology therapeutic landscape, particularly pancreatic cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, and colorectal cancer.
Deep knowledge of compliance standards governing global congresses and scientific exchange.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional collaboration in a complex, matrixed environment.
Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience managing budgets, vendors, and operational processes related to congresses and advisory boards.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in early/late-phase development and product launch preparation in oncology.
Understanding of global medical congress operations and digital engagement tools.
Prior leadership of global advisory boards strategy alignment.
Experience working in fast-paced, innovative, clinical-stage biotech organizations.
