The Electronics Specialist II performs journeyman-level maintenance, repair, diagnosis, trouble-shooting, fabrication and preventive maintenance involving commercial-level electronics work. This position will also perform fiber optic and copper cabling, network setup, and maintenance. Knowledge in low voltage systems, electrical work, and field service operations, ensuring high-quality installation and troubleshooting of telecommunication infrastructure. Understanding of computer networking and related tools. Prepping, splicing and testing of new and existing cables as well as troubleshooting and repairing any out of specification splices.
This position is required to work rotating on-call shifts.

Leads and participates in skilled analysis, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of complex electronic systems, controls, instrumentation, and related equipment;
Provides technical direction, training, and oversight to assigned staff in proper repair, diagnostic, and safety practices;
Plans, coordinates, and reviews work assignments to ensure timely completion and compliance with standards, codes, and specifications;
Performs advanced quality control testing and diagnostic analysis to ensure system reliability, and implements corrective or preventive measures as required;
Designs, fabricates, modifies, or installs electronic equipment, components, and systems from plans, sketches, or technical drawings;
Prepares cost estimates, material requisitions, and project documentation for specialized repair, maintenance, and installation work;
Prepares detailed sketches, diagrams, and reports to communicate technical information to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors;
Maintains accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance;
Inspects and approves the work of others when authorized or certified to do so;
Coordinates work-unit activities with other departments, agencies, or contractors to optimize resources and minimize service disruptions;
Monitors and evaluates contractor performance for compliance with specifications and quality standards;
Ensures proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintains accountability for all tools, equipment, and safety devices in sensitive or restricted settings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in the electronics trade AND three years of relevant journey-level experience.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
One year with Pima County in an Electronics Specialist I or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. Some positions may require additional specialized training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum three (3) years experience fiber splicing, cable pulling, and termination for both fiber optic and Ethernet networks.
Minimum three (3) years experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco routers, switches, and other networking equipment.
Minimum three (3) years experience conduct network installation tasks including cabling, testing, and certification of structured wiring systems.
Experience setting up telephony systems and ensure proper integration with existing network infrastructure.
Experience using hand tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, and ohmmeters to install and test low voltage wiring.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Maintains a (NICET) Level 1 Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems Certification, required within six months of employment. Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items: Ability to obtain jail pass is required. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Post offer physical required. Some positions require the ability to: lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds; safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; work in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, cold; safely wear required safety clothing/equipment; work with on in the presence of obnoxious odors; work with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products; ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiate between colors.
Working Conditions: Position requires on-call hours. Occasionally performs duties at correctional facility/detention centers and other high secure areas. Other working conditions will be determined by position.
