Staff Full Stack Engineer, Team Lead (New Billing)

Healthie is the world’s leading API-first, ONC-Certified EHR for healthcare delivery outside of the hospital. As a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack & Tech Lead for the New Billing initiative, you will lead the architecture and development of systems that manage billing, ensuring reliability and scalability while mentoring other engineers and collaborating closely with Product and Design teams.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the architecture and development of the systems that power how providers get paid
• Design and build resilient full-stack systems in our Ruby on Rails monolith
• Span backend services, data models, GraphQL APIs, and frontend experiences (React/TypeScript) to ship complete features across the stack
• Set technical direction and guide engineering decisions
• Mentor other engineers while partnering closely with Product and Design
• Leverage AI-powered development tools and help teams adopt modern, AI-assisted engineering practices

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience building and shipping production systems across the full stack
• Strong expertise in modern web technologies such as Ruby, React, TypeScript, and GraphQL
• Experience designing backend services, APIs, and data models that support complex, high-scale applications
• Ability to think beyond individual features and consider how systems interact across services, data layers, and user experiences
• Comfortable designing scalable architectures and solving complex technical problems that span multiple parts of the platform
• Belief that reliability and correctness are critical, especially in systems that power financial workflows
• Ability to write clean, maintainable code and ensure it is supported by thoughtful testing and observability
• Natural ability to lead technical initiatives, guide architectural decisions, and help teams navigate complex engineering challenges
• Ability to raise the bar for engineering quality through design reviews, mentorship, and thoughtful collaboration
• Enjoyment in partnering closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate complex requirements into well-designed systems and intuitive user experiences
