Barry-Wehmiller is a diversified global supplier of engineering consulting and manufacturing technology for the packaging industry. The Field Service Technician acts as the primary technical interface for BWPKG to the customer, providing detailed technical assistance and on-site support by installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and optimizing integrated production lines.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and perform repairs and modifications on mechanical, electrical, or programmable controls for complex automated and integrated industrial packaging equipment at customer sites
- Assist in the installation, start-up, checkout, validation, and testing of existing, upgraded, and new equipment
- Work independently and decisively to analyze and effectively resolve faults or malfunctions by means of direct or online interface to customer equipment
- Interact with personnel at customer sites to provide insight on the safety, proper operation, and preventative maintenance of equipment to improve efficiency of customer productivity
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through oral and written communication and reporting. Become a strong advocate of the Company and build realistic and achievable expectations with the customer
- Act as liaison between customers, as well as internal departments, to ensure progress and quality of service
- Effectively perform administrative tasks including job status reporting, site time and resources used, as well as expenses incurred and materials or parts needed
- Provide both remote and onsite technical support to end use customers
- Communicate information regarding material changes made to customer equipment through appropriate internal departments so updates to technical documentation can be made (manuals, drawings, program files, documentation, and in-house training program)
- Provide detailed information and assistance with accurate and timely updates to technical documentation relating to equipment changes made onsite
- Help to ensure projects are executed and completed within quoted time, margin, and results expectation
- Comply with all Company and customer safety regulations and procedures and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area
- Continuous improvement and lean process mindset

Requirements:
- A degree in Mechatronics or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the packaging industry, demonstrating expertise in mechatronics, mechanical, pneumatic, and controls systems
- Proficient in PLC programming, settings, and parameters
- Working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic controls systems along with a strong understanding of integrated material handling systems
- Understanding of and ability to read floorplan layouts, electrical schematics, instrumentation diagrams, programming logic schema as well as other technical documentation
- Proficient in structured troubleshooting techniques

- Experience in understanding and modifying PLC Programming preferably in both ladder logic and structured text
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite
- Must possess a valid driver's license and passport
- The willingness and ability to travel on short notice is required
- Basic CAD knowledge
- Ability to speak Spanish, and/or Dutch
