LearningMate is seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop and maintain online course content for a certification program for aspiring Residential Electricians. The role involves collaborating with various teams to create engaging materials that equip learners with essential skills in residential electrical work.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert-level guidance on electrical principles, safety standards, local and national code compliance (such as NEC), and best practices in residential electrical installations
- Understanding of the current job market for Residential Electricians, including trends, opportunities, and challenges
- Ability to provide insights into career progression, specialization options, and continuing education opportunities in the electrical field
- Knowledge of current technologies, tools, and equipment used in the electrical trade
- Awareness of the importance of soft skills such as customer service, communication, and problem-solving in residential electrical work
- Design and develop comprehensive online course content, including learning objectives, modules, lessons, assessments, and hands-on labs. Topics should cover electrical theory, residential wiring, electrical safety, and energy-efficient solutions
- Select and curate high-quality sources and content for each competency, lesson, and learning objective
- Develop engaging instructional materials, including case studies, day-in-life scenarios, and interactives that cover key topics essential for aspiring electricians
- Work collaboratively with instructional designers, other SMEs, and project managers to ensure the successful development and delivery of online courses
- Participate in weekly check-ins with the LearningMate’s SME Manager to discuss progress and any challenges
- Review and revise course content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency
- Provide constructive feedback on other course materials as needed
- Identify gaps or outdated information and recommend updates to ensure the course content reflects the latest industry standards
Requirements:
- An associate or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field
- Valid electrician's license and relevant certifications (e.g., Journeyman Electrician, Master Electrician) are highly desirable
- Proficient understanding of electrical systems, circuit design, and residential wiring techniques
- Familiarity with NEC and local electrical codes
- Hands-on experience in residential electrical work, including installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of best practices for ensuring electrical safety and compliance
- Experience in designing educational programs or courses, particularly in technical or vocational education
- Familiarity with learning management systems and instructional design frameworks
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with development teams
