Technical Data Steward HR Data Governance
The Technical Data Steward is responsible for the technical data management, governance, integrity, and quality of Human Resources data assets within an HR Data Warehouse environment and related platforms. This role ensures that data is properly defined, secured, governed, and usable across systems by partnering with HR business stewards, data analytics teams, engineering teams, and other stakeholders.
Basic Description
Provide technical data stewardship support to the HR Data Analytics team in managing, governing, and optimizing HR data assets. Ensure data is accurate, secure, and aligned with enterprise data governance standards to support analytics, reporting, and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities

- Implement and enforce enterprise data governance policies, standards, and procedures
- Ensure execution of governance workstreams, including:
- Metadata management
- Data quality management
- Data lifecycle management
- Enterprise quality controls
- AI-ready metadata
- Policy and standards compliance
- Monitor adherence to technical data standards and ensure compliance across business areas

- Own technical data decisions on behalf of business data owners
- Provide subject matter expertise on:
- Source systems
- Data warehouses and data stores
- ETL processes and pipelines
- Business intelligence tools
- Ensure proper implementation and integration of data across systems and platforms
< data-start="1834" data-end="1872">3. Metadata, Lineage & Cataloging</>
- Build and maintain a data catalog, including metadata and business glossary
- Ensure data definitions, rules, and standards are clearly documented and consistently applied
- Capture and maintain end-to-end data lineage and technical data flows
< data-start="2126" data-end="2165">4. Data Quality & Issue Resolution</>
- Perform root cause analysis of data quality issues and coordinate resolution with data engineering and analytics teams
- Support design and implementation of data quality audits, controls, and monitoring tools
- Lead data cleansing and remediation initiatives
< data-start="2435" data-end="2469">5. Security & Risk Management</>
- Partner with information security, data governance, and HR data teams to implement controls such as:
- Role-based access control (RBAC)
- Persona-based access
- Row-level security
- Data encryption and protection standards
- Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data across platforms
< data-start="2793" data-end="2826">6. Stakeholder Collaboration</>
- Partner with business data stewards, data owners, and IT/data engineering teams
- Translate business requirements into technical data solutions
- Communicate impacts of data decisions across stakeholder groups
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working across multiple business units and organizational levels
- Strong experience with HR data systems (e.g., Oracle HCM, PeopleSoft)
- Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Power BI)
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts (Azure-based environments)
- Experience with data integration and ETL processes (SQL Server, Databricks, Azure)
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices
- Experience with metadata management, data lineage, and data cataloging
- Familiarity with master data management (MDM)
- Experience implementing enterprise data governance solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
- Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with HR reporting and regulatory compliance requirements
