Flock Safety is the leading safety technology platform, helping communities thrive by taking a proactive approach to crime prevention and security. They are seeking a Senior Manager of Product Design to elevate usability, consistency, and design quality across their product suite while strengthening the partnership between Product, Engineering, and Design.
Responsibilities:
- Level up the quality of design in our product and the craft of our design team
- Shape a design vision grounded in customer insights and data, focusing on the product experiences where design can drive the greatest impact
- Mentor and empower a team of 9 designers as a hands-on player-coach who deeply understands users, workflows, and product details
- Strengthen alignment across Product and Engineering to solve meaningful problems for our customers
- Right-size design systems, processes, and rituals for hyper-growth, ensuring we balance speed with quality
- Ensure an understanding of the underlying models and primitives that enable great UX to be built on top
- Improve usability and consistency across web and mobile experiences
- Champion user-centered design across prototyping, journey mapping, system design, and interface design
- Build and evolve the design team’s culture, principles, vision, and shared language
- Establish and maintain design processes and rituals that enable high-quality work at high velocity
- Strengthen relationships with Product, Engineering, and customer-facing teams to ensure we’re solving the right problems and delivering intuitive, impactful experiences
- Lead a data-informed design practice – partnering with Product Analytics and cross-functional teams to define, track, and interpret UX health indicators — using insights to guide design decisions and measure impact
- Serve as a hands-on player-coach, engaging in discovery, testing, validation, and iterative loops with the Design team, as well as Product and Engineering
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that strengthen our experience quality, such as accessibility (WCAG), usability and interaction standards, and shared patterns across products
- Build strong relationships with designers, product managers, engineering partners, and customer-facing teams
- Develop a deep understanding of Flock’s product ecosystem, users, workflows, and the contexts in which our products are used
- Spend time listening to customers and users — through shadowing support calls, ride-alongs with customer-facing teams, and observing real workflows — to build firsthand empathy for how our products are used in practice
- Review design operations, rituals, and execution patterns to understand current velocity and quality
- Begin an initial audit of critical product areas to identify the highest-ROI opportunities for design quality or consistency improvement
- Familiarize yourself with accessibility expectations and Flock’s current WCAG posture
- Provide coaching, feedback, and day-to-day support to designers to strengthen their craft and impact
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to refine or right-size design workflows, rituals, and cross-functional touchpoints
- Work with Product Analytics and customer-facing teams to understand the current state of UX health indicators and begin establishing baseline metrics
- Conduct deeper engagements with users and customers — participating in research sessions, customer conversations, and real-field usage observations to validate assumptions and better understand critical workflows
- Identify opportunities to improve accessibility across the product suite and partner cross-functionally on a practical plan to move WCAG compliance forward
- Deepen the initial product audit into a clear perspective on where design can improve usability, quality, or customer outcomes. Begin working with the team to make measured, incremental improvements in high-impact areas
- Strengthen UX research and discovery practices, integrating user insights more deeply into product planning
- Deliver a prioritized set of recommendations for where design can drive improvements to velocity, quality, or practice maturity
- Establish ongoing tracking of UX health indicators and integrate them into team rituals and decision-making
- Own cross-functional initiatives that impact user experience (e.g., accessibility, UX standards)
- Continue supporting designers as a player-coach — helping them elevate design quality, strengthen craft, and deliver thoughtful, user-centered product improvements
- Ensure customer insights remain central to design decisions by bringing user feedback, field observations, and UX metrics into roadmap conversations and design critiques
Requirements:
- 8+ years of product design experience, with deep expertise designing across multiple platforms, especially web applications
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing product designers in a player-coach capacity, ideally in a high-growth environment
- Strong UX foundation and expertise across the core design disciplines: Defining core primitives, information architecture, interaction design, and user interface design, with the ability to evaluate and elevate the quality of each
- Strong design craft and product intuition, able to translate complex user needs into simple, effective solutions
- Exceptional cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at every level
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and driving clarity in fast-paced, high-growth settings
- Wired to build with time-to-value for the customer in mind
- Experience designing for B2B SaaS products used across varied user contexts and technical comfort levels
