DevOps Engineer

Span is hiring a DevOps Engineer to build, scale, and maintain the infrastructure powering its developer intelligence platform. The role focuses on infrastructure reliability and security, CI/CD automation, observability, performance, and enabling engineering teams to ship software efficiently.

Responsibilities:

• Own and scale our infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure to support our growing platform
• Improve CI/CD pipelines: Build and optimize automated build, testing, and deployment workflows to help engineers ship quickly and confidently
• Automate everything: Identify opportunities to eliminate manual processes through infrastructure as code, scripting, and automation
• Strengthen reliability and observability: Implement and improve monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response processes to ensure system health and availability
• Optimize performance and costs: Monitor infrastructure utilization, identify inefficiencies, and improve performance while managing cloud costs
• Build secure systems: Partner with engineering and security stakeholders to implement infrastructure security best practices, access controls, and compliance requirements
• Enable developer productivity: Create tools, processes, and infrastructure that reduce friction and improve the developer experience
• Support production operations: Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, investigate incidents, and implement long-term improvements
• Collaborate across engineering: Work closely with software engineers to support new features, architectural decisions, and evolving infrastructure needs

Requirements:

• 4+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a similar infrastructure-focused role
• Strong experience managing cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or CircleCI
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability solutions
• Strong understanding of networking, Linux systems, cloud security, and infrastructure best practices
• Experience troubleshooting production systems and improving reliability
• A proactive, ownership-driven mindset with the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to solving technical challenges
• Experience working at an early-stage or high-growth startup
• Experience supporting SaaS platforms or data-intensive applications
• Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure, workloads, or deployment patterns
• Experience with customer-managed cloud environments, including Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) architectures
• Experience with SOC 2 compliance and infrastructure security controls
• Familiarity with distributed systems, databases, and high-volume data processing
• Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure tooling
