About this role
Role Overview
Define and own regional drilling safety standards and critical controls.
Act as the custodian of drilling-related safety practices and procedures.
Ensure full compliance with company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Lead incident investigations related to drilling activities and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented.
Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and field inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
Intervene and provide direction where operations fall short of required safety standards.
Partner with site leadership to embed a high-performance safety culture across drilling activities.
Promote continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance.
Develop, implement, and maintain regional drilling standards, procedures, and best practices.
Ensure consistency and standardisation of drilling operations across all sites within the region.
Monitor operational performance and ensure alignment with corporate objectives and KPIs.
Provide governance and oversight to ensure adherence to approved drilling methodologies and processes.
Serve as the regional technical authority for drilling operations.
Establish and maintain technical drilling standards, including equipment selection, drilling methodologies, and performance benchmarks.
Provide expert technical guidance, mentoring and support to site-based drilling teams.
Review and approve drilling plans, designs, and execution strategies.
Drive continuous improvement in drilling efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
Act as the regional discipline lead for drilling, providing functional leadership to site-based Drilling Superintendents.
Establish clear expectations, standards, and ways of working across all drilling operations.
Drive alignment across sites through regular engagement, forums, and performance reviews.
Provide oversight and governance without direct line management, influencing outcomes through expertise and leadership.
Track, analyse, and report on drilling performance metrics and KPIs.
Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement best practices across the region.
Drive innovation and adoption of new drilling technologies and methodologies.
Support cost control initiatives while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Drilling Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Significant experience in drilling operations within the mining industry, including leadership at a regional or multi-site level.
Strong technical expertise in drilling methods, equipment, and operational practices.
Proven track record of driving safety performance and operational excellence.
Experience managing contractors and cross-functional teams.
Strong leadership and influencing skills.
Deep understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices in mining.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to drive standardisation and continuous improvement across multiple sites.
