Regional Drilling Operations Lead

Role Overview

• Define and own regional drilling safety standards and critical controls.
• Act as the custodian of drilling-related safety practices and procedures.
• Ensure full compliance with company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Lead incident investigations related to drilling activities and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented.
• Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and field inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Intervene and provide direction where operations fall short of required safety standards.
• Partner with site leadership to embed a high-performance safety culture across drilling activities.
• Promote continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance.
• Develop, implement, and maintain regional drilling standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Ensure consistency and standardisation of drilling operations across all sites within the region.
• Monitor operational performance and ensure alignment with corporate objectives and KPIs.
• Provide governance and oversight to ensure adherence to approved drilling methodologies and processes.
• Serve as the regional technical authority for drilling operations.
• Establish and maintain technical drilling standards, including equipment selection, drilling methodologies, and performance benchmarks.
• Provide expert technical guidance, mentoring and support to site-based drilling teams.
• Review and approve drilling plans, designs, and execution strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement in drilling efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Act as the regional discipline lead for drilling, providing functional leadership to site-based Drilling Superintendents.
• Establish clear expectations, standards, and ways of working across all drilling operations.
• Drive alignment across sites through regular engagement, forums, and performance reviews.
• Provide oversight and governance without direct line management, influencing outcomes through expertise and leadership.
• Track, analyse, and report on drilling performance metrics and KPIs.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement best practices across the region.
• Drive innovation and adoption of new drilling technologies and methodologies.
• Support cost control initiatives while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Drilling Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Significant experience in drilling operations within the mining industry, including leadership at a regional or multi-site level.
• Strong technical expertise in drilling methods, equipment, and operational practices.
• Proven track record of driving safety performance and operational excellence.
• Experience managing contractors and cross-functional teams.
• Strong leadership and influencing skills.
• Deep understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices in mining.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to drive standardisation and continuous improvement across multiple sites.
