They are seeking a Senior User Experience Researcher to conduct end-user research, influence product design, and ensure user experience consistency throughout the development process.
Responsibilities:
- Performs end-user facing research to gain insights that will impact an intentional user experience with John Deere solutions and communicates insights for use in the design process
- Stay abreast of new methods, technology, and trends that impact user experience research and design practices and determines applicability within John Deere
- Ensure the end-user voice is represented throughout the product development process and that the user experience is consistent with the user experience strategy
- Guide, define, and execute research of moderate to high complexity, covering an expanded set of user classes and personas, which may involve creating new personas
- Lead and/or participate in the creation of the user experience (UX) strategy for a narrow set of related solutions
- Generate insights and recommendations that influence the design of products that span multiple platforms, typically within a single division, involving complex and often concurrent user interactions
- Work to share knowledge across workgroups
- Mentor and coach less experienced UX Researchers
- 50% domestic travel required to meet customers, visit test sites and attend events
Requirements:
- 2 years of experience conducting discovery research in Automotive Automation & Autonomy (SAE L3+), including autonomy takeover, trust, mode awareness, and other HMI scenarios (V2V, V2P, inadvertent interactions)
- 2 years of experience in designing and conducting academic/applied human-automation studies using UX/HF methods per SAE/HFES, including in-vehicle voice agents and advanced cockpit HMIs
- 3 years of experience in applying mixed-methods research (simulators, field evals, contextual inquiry, card sorting, heuristic evals) supporting ADAS (park assist, blind spot, camera systems)
- 3 years of experience in analyzing quantitative/qualitative data using SPSS, R, Python (ANOVA, regression, mixed-effects, time-series), with survey design and psychometric validation
- 3 years of experience in authoring human factors reports aligned with SAE/HFES and presenting findings influencing in-vehicle HMI design
- 2 years of experience using Tobii Pro Lab for eye-tracking (fixation, scan path, AOI heatmap) to evaluate driver/operator attention
- 2 years of experience using Empatica E4 to capture electrodermal activity and HRV to assess workload and stress during automation takeover
- 2 years of experience in applying workload measures (NASA-TLX, ISS) in simulator and on-road autonomy studies
- 3 years of experience in iterative design (Agile/hybrid), triaging SAE L3+ HMI prototypes and providing usability/safety trade-off recommendations
- 2 years of experience in conducting remote HMI usability testing via Teams or Zoom
- 3 years of experience in collaborating with UX, HF engineers, PMs, and academic partners to translate simulator, physiological, and field data into SAE L3+ autonomy design requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Systems Engineering, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or a closely related field, plus 3 years related experience
