Switch is a company focused on designing, building, and operating data centers to enable future technology. The Mechanical Engineer will design and support mechanical systems for large-scale data centers, ensuring that systems meet performance, cost, and code requirements while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical and piping systems for hyperscale data center projects
- Review and guide work from external engineering consultants
- Develop and maintain design standards, specifications, and basis of design documents
- Select and evaluate mechanical equipment with vendors and manufacturers
- Ensure designs meet mechanical and plumbing codes, standards, and utility requirements
- Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, AHJs, and construction partners
- Support projects through design reviews, permitting, and construction phases
- Conduct site visits for assessments, design validation, and construction support
- Identify improvements to cost, quality, schedule, and design consistency across projects
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- 4–7 years of experience designing mechanical systems for large-scale facilities
- Experience with cooling systems and mechanical infrastructure in data centers or similar environments
- Working knowledge of mechanical and plumbing codes and standards
- Experience coordinating with external design consultants
- Familiarity with tools such as Bluebeam, Excel, Smartsheet, MS Office, or similar
- Ability to review technical designs and support construction execution
- Communicates clearly and shares information needed for decisions
- Takes ownership of work and follows through on commitments
- Applies sound judgment when balancing performance, cost, and schedule
- Works effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Identifies issues early and brings practical solutions
- Maintains consistency and attention to detail across multiple projects
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with CFD or FEA tools for airflow and system analysis
- Experience working with AHJs, utilities, and permitting processes
